01. A QUIET STUDY |
Words on the creation of a new series of images.
Fluid Silence is a departure from my portrait and documentary work—a quiet study of transformation and movement. This series was conceived as a visual complement to a pitch deck I created over the summer. The work explores the intimate relationship between water and pigment, where form is fleeting and stillness becomes an act of creation. In the studio, I sought to translate the subtle rhythms of fluid dynamics into a meditative language of tone and texture, allowing color to breathe and dissolve within its own space.
The series is both a technical and emotional experiment. In this instant I saw the precision of the lens meet the unpredictability of liquid motion, revealing how chaos and calm could coexist in a single frame. Each image captured a suspended moment—a dialogue between abstraction and control.
My portraiture often looks outward, tracing the stories of human presence, Fluid Silence turns inward. It reflects the quiet slow discipline of observation. The series becomes a meditation on process itself—on how art can emerge not through intention alone, but through surrender to the quiet alchemy of materials. In this series I used a collection of items including pigments, water, glass and wood. Some images utilize cloth and other paper. Play was the defining factor in the creation of these stills. Available light melted and molded the pigment in small slow bursts while I moved paint & water, anticipating what may emerge. Although I was never right in my predictions of travel, it was a great experiment at play.
